Doriana and Massimiliano Fuksas
Fuksas Studio, founded and led by Doriana e Massimiliano Fuksas, is one of the most renowned architecture firms on the international scene, with offices in Rome, Paris, Shenzhen, and Shanghai. Over more than fifty years of activity, it has completed more than 600 projects worldwide, distinguished by an innovative architectural language, continuous formal research, and a deep focus on sustainability and the quality of human experience. Among its most significant works are the New Rome-EUR Convention Center “La Nuvola” in Rome, the Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport in China, the Ferrari Museum in Modena, the MyZeil Shopping Center in Frankfurt, the Twin Towers in Vienna, the Church of San Paolo Apostolo in Foligno, the New Fiera Milano – Rho-Pero complex, the Peres Peace House in Jaffa, and numerous projects for Giorgio Armani, including the Armani Ginza Tower in Tokyo and Armani Fifth Avenue in New York.
Doriana Fuksas, who graduated in History of Modern and Contemporary Architecture at La Sapienza University and in Architecture at the École Spéciale d’Architecture in Paris, has collaborated with Massimiliano since 1985 and, since 1997, has directed Fuksas Design, the division dedicated to product and interior design. She has curated special projects for the Venice Biennale and has received major international honors, including the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, the Légion d’Honneur, and the title of Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. Doriana Fuksas’s work is extensive and widely recognized, with collaborations with some of the most important Italian and international companies: Alessi, Poltrona Frau, iGuzzini, Venini, Fiam, Baxter, Glamora, Meritalia, Slamp, Nemo Lighting, Zeus Noto, Valli & Valli, Victoria Arduino, Itlas, Sicis, Hayworth Castelli, Short Stories (with Mimmo Palladino).
Massimiliano Fuksas, born in Rome to a family of Lithuanian origins, graduated in Architecture from La Sapienza University in 1969. Since the 1980s, he has been a leading figure on the international architectural scene. He has served on the Urban Planning Commissions of Berlin and Salzburg and was Director of the 7th Venice Architecture Biennale, “Less Aesthetics, More Ethics.” He has taught as a visiting professor at prestigious institutions including Columbia University in New York, the École Spéciale d’Architecture in Paris, the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Vienna, and the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Stuttgart, dedicating particular attention to issues related to major metropolitan areas. He has received numerous awards and honors, among the most important: the Grand Prix National d’Architecture Française, Commandeur de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres of the French Republic, Honorary Fellowship of the AIA – American Institute of Architects, Honorary Fellowship of the RIBA – Royal Institute of British Architects, Knight Grand Cross of the Italian Republic, and the Légion d’Honneur. He has also received the Medal of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers in Italy and the Global Lithuanian Award in the Arts and Culture category in Vilnius. In 2013, Terminal 3 of Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport, designed with Doriana Mandrelli Fuksas, received the Idea-Tops Award for Best Transportation Space in China. In 2014, it received both the Architizer A+ Award and the Architizer A+ Popular Choice Award in the Transportation – Airports category.
Together, they have built a distinctive and constantly evolving architectural vision, capable of combining experimentation, social responsibility, and an open outlook toward the future of cities.
